Our vision: an Australia where all people and communities thrive

As one of Australia’s leading social impact organisations, we help institutions think differently. We put our extensive know-how to work, re-designing systems and working hand-in-hand with our partners and communities to drive real, lasting change.

Right now, one in four people in Australia experience disadvantage through poverty, exclusion or deprivation. Current systems are not set up to support them, but with more effective policy, better funding, improved practice and collaboration, we can shift the dial on disadvantage.

Too hard is no excuse.

We are innovators for good

We are innovators for good

SVA uniquely combines innovation, impact investing, consulting, and public policy and advocacy to bring a fresh and perspective to systemic challenges.

This gives us a deep understanding of the social sector, its challenges, and the creative solutions that will support better outcomes for the most vulnerable people in Australia.

Innovation Hub

Our history

Twenty-three years ago, SVA was created to fill an innovation gap. The Benevolent Society, The Smith Family, Work Ventures and the AMP Foundation – organisations with long histories delivering change in Australian communities – asked an important question: what if there was an organisation dedicated to find creative solutions to entrenched social problems, and speed up the delivery of innovative ideas to achieve better social outcomes?

Ever since this inception, SVA has worked with community, social sector, business and government partners to rethink systems so that more people in Australia can live their best life.

First Nations practice

We believe that belonging for all Australians requires specific recognition and respect of First Nations knowledge, histories and cultures.

Through our Reconciliation Action Plan we seek to strengthen our vision for reconciliation. It’s underpinned by our First Nations Practice Principles, which guide our work with First Nations peoples, communities and organisations.
