Our impact

SVA has a vision for an Australia where students have access to high-quality education, regardless of their background or location. We work to break the link between disadvantage and educational outcomes by championing innovation, effective practices, and system-wide reform.

We build partnerships with schools, early learning providers, government, community organisations and key stakeholders across the education sector to strengthen teaching practices and tackle the root causes of educational inequity. By supporting school and system leaders with evidence-based tools and resources, SVA helps lift student learning outcomes at scale.

Australia’s education gap is widening

Education is the foundation for long-term wellbeing and opportunity, however educational disadvantage remains deeply entrenched in Australia. Students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, rural and remote areas, and Indigenous communities continue to face barriers to accessing and benefitting from quality education.

Persistent and widening inequities in Australia’s education system mean too many children are missing out on the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. Here are some of the challenges we need to address:

  • Students from low socioeconomic status areas are, on average, three years behind in reading and maths by age 15 compared to advantaged peers.
  • Over 50,000 young people disengage from education every year, limiting their future economic and social opportunities.
  • Evidence-based practice is not consistently embedded across the 9,500+ schools and 16,000+ early learning services in Australia.

Without targeted support and evidence-based approaches, these gaps are likely to increase – impacting individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole.

Empowering educators through data

ImpactEd Australia will support educators to better respond to student needs.

This pilot project aims to drive better outcomes for students through access to improved data quality and insights for teachers. This includes:

  • Better identification of a student’s learning and wellbeing needs
  • Speeding up the process of understanding what is effective, helping teachers feel informed and empowered to act and adapt as required
  • Equipping educators and schools to continuously improve what they do and make informed decisions about where to direct valuable teaching time and resources
  • Collating better evidence from schools across Australia, influencing the system at large, helping to change investments in policy and practice that lead to better outcomes for all students.

Our aim is to build a self-sustaining model, similar to ImpactEd in the UK. ImpactEd UK is funded through low-cost subscription fees for its school platform, together with revenue from consulting services and support derived directly from schools, as well as from government contracts and research partnerships.

Partnering Opportunity

SVA is seeking an additional $1,400,000 to continue a three-year ImpactEd pilot in Australia.
