Joel Steller
Manager, Consulting (NSW)

I am passionate about understanding how organisations and communities can meaningfully work together to create sustainable solutions to complex challenges in our society. At SVA I am lucky to support such incredible clients that are driving real and lasting social change.
Joel is a Manager in the SVA Consulting Team based in Alice Springs, with expertise in program design, strategic planning, community development and impact measurement.
Through his time at SVA, Joel has worked with a wide range of non-profits and government departments to deliver social impact. Highlights include working with ranger groups in West Arnhem land to design, and secure funding for, an Indigenous-led training initiative and developing a national outcomes framework for the Department of Social Services ILC program. Joel has most recently been on a long-term secondment with the Central Land Council, designing a remote employment trial that aims to demonstrate a community-led approach to improving youth employment pathways in remote communities.
Prior to SVA, Joel worked with Vinnies NSW coordinating community development projects with inner-city houseless communities, and supported resilience building projects after the Black Summer fires. He begun his career as a consultant with GHD, planning and managing community engagement programs across large-scale infrastructure projects. During this time, he was privileged to work with the Dharug community to support the facilitation of a land transfer from NSW Government back to the Traditional Custodians.
Joel also cofounded and led a social enterprise called Welcome Studio, working together with local artists from refugee backgrounds to build community connections, create employment opportunities and make our cities more inclusive. He holds a Bachelor of Science from UNSW and is currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Social Impact.
